Nihan Somay (1988, Istanbul) mostly works in context and explores possibilities of collaboration in an effort to understand how to orientate the body and the tongue against the effects of linguistic hegemony, social constructs and forms of propaganda, visible and internalized. Along with a need to rely on humour and adventure as conceptual tools; artists editions, text forms, speech acts, language, translation, publishing and the performative aspects they incorporate appear as forms of interest in her research.

She holds a BA degree in visual arts from Sabanci University (Istanbul) and an MA degree as Master of Arts in Public Spheres from École de design et haute école d’art du Valais (édhéa) in Switzerland. She is a member of artist collective KABA HAT since 2011 and a part of BAÇOY KOOP (Printing, Duplication and Distribution Cooperative).
